Supporting more students at a time

In February 2025, PeSSA started working with the University of the Philippines Mindanao Scholarship and Financial Assistance Section OSA to sponsor students from the southern part of the Philippines.

PeSSA is proud to be providing assistance to the following students:

University of the Philippines Diliman

  • Eisenhower Aldemita II – BS Computer Science
  • Bianca Anne Cardano – BS Mathematics

University of the Philippines Mindanao

  • Jemina Jaictin – BS Data Science
  • Bezalel Ysrael Singson – BS Food Technology

Thanks to your continued support, PeSSA has been able to provide around CHF 4,000 in financial assistance to our scholars in 2025 alone.

Our bellies and hearts are full – thank you!

One cozy evening, three types of dumplings, four beautiful guests. We did not only share recipes and dumpling folding techniques, but also our love for food in general. It was 3.5 hours of hard work which was rewarded by fresh homemade dinner cooked together.

To our friends, colleagues and neighbours who supported in person and in spirit PeSSA’s first event of the year, we thank you very much.

Learn how to make Asian dumplings for a cause

We are excited to organize our first event of the year! In a cozy kitchen in Kleinbasel (address to be given to participants only), we will be teaching how to make 2-3 types of Asian dumplings one winter evening. The cost is CHF 70 per person including ingredients. Indeed, you will be able to enjoy the dumplings once they are cooked! Together we will make Filipino Siomai, Korean Mandu, and Chinese no yeast crispy fried buns. We will invite no more than 7 people to this event.

Contact us at pessa.basel@gmail.com for registration!

Donations to PeSSA of minimum CHF 100 are tax-deductible in Basel-Stadt.

New Year updates

Six years have passed since we started this association. Here’s a summary of what we have accomplished so far:

  1. Our first two scholarship grantees completed their Bachelor’s degree from the University of the Philippines Diliman.
    • Ms. Kayla G Solis graduated BS Civil Engineering in 2023 and with flying colors as Magna Cum Laude. She is now a licensed Civil Engineer.
    • Ms. Ricci Mae Margallo graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics. She is now working as a Data Engineering Analyst.
  2. We are currently supporting our 3rd and 4th students, also from UP Diliman.
    • Mr. Eisenhower II Aldmita is currently in his last year studying BS Computer Science.
    • Ms. Bianca Anne Cardano is a 3rd year BS Mathematics student.
  3. We are working with the Scholarship and Financial Assistance Section OSA of University of the Philippines Mindanao to be able to support two more students with their college education.

We would like to thank everyone who support our fundraising activities, especially to our donors who have been providing donations every month.

“I recognize that I would not have gone this far if it weren’t for your continuous support and generosity. I am extremely thankful for the help you have given me in the past four years.” – Kayla Solis, May 2023

2019 PeSSA campaigns raise CHF 2676

We would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed one way or another to our 2019 fundraising campaigns. We sold delicious gingerbread Christmas tree cookies by Bespoke Biscuits Co., did our second year of Calendar for a Cause, and organized for the first time an evening of Filipino and Mexican dinner / concert in Basel. PeSSA raised CHF 2676 from all these efforts, in addition to having a new sponsor, who committed to giving monthly donations to support a student. Our hearts are once again filled with gratitude as we welcome the New Year with hopes of helping to educate more Filipinos.

PeSSA finds its first grantees

Meet Kayla Solis and Ricci Mae Margallo – the first students selected to receive scholarship grants from PeSSA. Kayla and Ricci Mae are freshman BS Mathematics students at the University of the Philippines Diliman (AY 2019-2020). They each will receive PhP 35000 per semester to spend on food, accommodation, transportation, and other university needs until their bachelor’s degree graduation in 2023.

Without our help, Kayla and Ricci Mae had to work as tutors several times a week in order to support their education, in spite of which they managed to receive very good grades during their first semester at the university.

Kayla and Ricci Mae applied for the scholarships through the UP Office of Scholarships and Grants. Let’s wish these two young female Mathematicians the best for their studies.

2018 Calendars for a Cause Raises CHF 7950

With the help of 35 donors, we are proud to have raised CHF 7950 (PhP 420 000) during our first fundraising activity. That’s enough to support 6 years of university education in the Philippines.

We are currently working with UP Diliman OSSS to legalize our donation and choose the two deserving students who will be PeSSA’s first scholars.

Our journey from establishing our association to this point has been nothing short of exciting. We will not get tired of saying thank you to all who has been part of this initiative.

2018 Calendars for a Cause Update

Four weeks after launching our first fundraising activity, we have raised CHF 1861 out of our target CHF 2650. We have received and delivered 35 calendars and 6 posters. Out of the amount we raised, CHF 754 are from donations from friends and colleagues.

We would like to thank everyone who has helped and supported us the past few weeks. Thank you very much for your patience as we try to finalize our website and bank account while the fundraising is going on.

We are really grateful for every support we get.
